How to get out of your own way… and start doing your thing.
Big news yogi friend. I have actually gone and done it! That place right up there in the picture, that’s where I’ll be leading my first yoga retreat.
Pinch me! It’s booked, deposit is down. It’s a done deal. 🙂
For those of you that know how long I’ve been sitting on this plan you can say it …fin..a..lly!
It’s all good. Sometimes we need to learn a few lessons on the way to getting to where we want to go. And today, I wanted to share some of those with you.
Life is seriously too short, especially for any faff
So if you’re dreaming about something big, maybe achieving a big goal that feels out of reach, it’s my wish that these three lessons help you get out of your own way and get going. (A little quicker than me maybe).
Now this is said a lot I know, but life is seriously too short, especially for any faff. So let’s get on with it.
The three lessons are:
Lesson 1.
The biggest obstacle to doing your thing, is within.
So, the number one thing I’ve learned about dreaming big is that it only takes you so far.
As soon as you start to dream big an inner battle with your gremlins starts.
- I’m not good enough
- It’s not the right time
- Who am I to.
- Maybe next week, month, year
- It’s risky
- I’ll only give up on it anyway.
- I can’t.
You familiar…?
On this, I say meditate and/or do yoga. These practices move you through this mental garbage. Put your trash out!
Lesson 2
Uncertainty is where the magic happens.
No matter what the call to adventure is, no matter how aware we are of the need to get going on making the dream happen, actually stepping out of our ‘ordinary’ world to do the work is scary stuff.
If you let it, fear of the unknown can make you turn back on your adventure, and hot tail it back to ‘dream’ state. Going for a new bigger life, requires a healthy dose of trust and faith that uncertainty is just part of the ‘dreaming big’ deal.
Again..the remedy? Mediate and find some space to connect with that intuitive part of you that knows you are supported and that the universe is abundantly generous. You can’t predict the future, but if you keep making the same choices you have to ask yourself, how can change happen for you?
Lesson 3
You are never alone.
The more you lean into your dreams you observe the people the places, the tools, training, equipment, finances or perfect piece of advice show up to help you on your adventure. (I have some amazing people show up for me, and not always in expected places!)
The more you reach into your resources, your inner source, your ‘Self’, the more aware you are of the support that’s available to you, the more courageous action you can take.
Tap into your resource each time you roll out your mat or take a seat on your meditation pillow. Go plug in to that, it’s powerful life-changing, dream-making stuff.
That’s it for this week.
Here are a few more shots of Villa Mandala – dreamy!
