A Note From Josie

I used to think that if I wanted to “be healthy and happy,” the habits I needed to change were what I ate and how I worked out.
To be fair, it’s not bad start, but I was wrong… here’s what needed to change.
What I was thinking.
Change starts in the mind. And if you can change your mind, you can transform anything.
The ancient yogis knew this and from my own personal journey of practicing and teaching this time-tested science, what I now know is that this tradition with ALL its many practices, asana (postures), breathwork (pranayama), mudra, mantra and ultimately meditation give us the map to explore the territory that is our mind.
I’ve got a lot to say on this, so if you think you are ready to do this work, keep reading. I have some practical tools that will help you follow through on what you know needs to be done. #Accountability. (See Below)
Spoiler alert! Yoga postures on their own won’t get us far enough to change how we think, it’s like kicking the tyres to get the car started. We need to be smarter than that and get under the hood.
Yeah, we can get the car in good working order, pump up the tyres, fill it with petrol, check the water – but without a fully working engine – we’re going nowhere.
It’s the same if we just practice Yoga Asana (the postures) in isolation of other traditional practices. You may get great body work! But if you’re still running from unhelpful mental programming, or not managing your energy efficiently, your capacity for life is limited. You might look great, but on some level, you will know everything isn’t great.
And then something eventually flares up. It could be stress, an illness, a rash, insomnia, anxiety, a back issue. You tell yourself, how come, I’m eating great and working out.
But the truth is it’s not enough.
Your body, being this amazing vessel for conscious awareness and healing, knows it’s not enough. It is getting you to pay attention to whatever it is you’re not dealing with or doing to feel completely fulfilled in life so it can re-establish internal harmony.
This by the way is a good thing that feels harsh. #ToughYogaLove
But it’s a wake-up call to get you back on track and do what needs to be done!
Loosely translated it’s your sense of Self (Spirit/Soul) saying ‘Get your car off the frickin’ drive and live your life the way you are meant to.’
Modern Yoga Gets In The Way Of Change
Unfortunately, as yoga becomes a solely commercial offering (insert money-making) the franchises, gyms and fitness studios have taken the opportunity to hijack this tradition.
And what was meant to be taught as a complete practice that delivers you sustainably towards energy and mind mastery and therefore life mastery, is being slowly diluted, fragmented, and dissected into a purely fitness-based practice which only serves to keep your proverbial car
on the drive.
We could call this keeping you in a ‘state of imbalance’
Now I admit. I didn’t see this initially because, well, it’s what the western model of yoga looks like today. Venues aren’t making time for Shavasana, nevermind Meditation. And you don’t actively question it at first, especially as a rookie teacher. Like you don’t question your parents – it’s just how it is. Everyone falls in line – and repeats the mantra – all yoga is good yoga!
But now I see, despite there being more yoga teachers and classes you can access there’s so few of us are actually walking around ‘enlightened’ and actually practicing yoga and living in freedom. Not even some of the teachers – even the famous ones.
And yeah, full on enlightenment might be a bit of an optimistic achievement. But you’d expect with all these people doing yoga we’d be more capable of handling change, stress, choices, and be taking responsibility for our lives.
No wonder it seems like many of us are still parked ‘on the drive’. (In some cases going backwards!)
It’s Never Too Late To Make A Change
If you can relate to this in any way. If this feels true to you. Let’s arrest the moment and take responsibility for it. It’s never too late to make a different, more aligned choice.
It’s never too late to steer your ship around.
And I am making it my mission as a yoga business owner to help more people find and follow through on a complete Yoga practice . One that will nourish them, get their mind right, and help them live their life more fully. A practice that serves to achieve ultimate harmony – in mind, body and spirit.
Because you don’t get to be a Yogi and not explore your more subtle, spiritual, soulful layers. It’s part of who you are and its neglect is a problem.
I truly believe in the power of Yoga when it is taught as it was meant to be taught and I want you to have this more complete experience yourself and not be sold short.
Fancy without function won’t bring any of us freedom.
And no sugar coating – Yoga is not for the faint-hearted. It takes a dedicated practitioner to work past all the obstacles on their way to discovering their real power and greatness.
But just know we’re here to help you make the commitments you need to make to yourself to get the results you are looking for.
