Intuition & Yoga: A Duo for Mastery of Mind and Energy

Unlocking Your Potential: How Yoga Cultivates Intuition

Intuition is often not taken seriously these days.  But it’s a real thing and I’ll be even more bold than that, it’s necessary if we’re going to find meaning in anything we do. Including what on earth you are doing that downward dog pose for! And by the way, it’s got almost zero to do with your hamstrings!

We may poke fun at it, but we need intuition to become masters of our mind and as a result, skilful at cultivating and directing our energy. If you don’t know how your practice is delivering you into that space and it all feels random. Well, all I can say is good luck, your path to success in Yoga will be a long random one.

Why Intuition Is Key to Finding Meaning in Yoga

If you’ve been practicing for a while, and this is ringing some kind of bell! I get it. I came to know that feeling because I was lost in that space myself once too.

Something deep inside was asking. What is this all for? Surely there is more to it than this?

There is! And intuitively – we know! That’s the kicker – we know but we don’t listen.

It’s time to work on those intuitive muscles and use the practice of Yoga for its deeper promise. And that is nothing short of becoming all we can be – unlimited, and an unstoppable force of good in the world.

Bold right! Yogis aren’t here to play small! Don’t be fooled by our still exteriors!

But how does yoga work to cultivate our intuition? It’s all about the practice. There are no short cuts folks. Working harder, faster, quicker doesn’t buy you a fast pass to the front of the evolutionary line.  In fact, in my experience, the reverse is true.

Beyond the Ego: How Yoga Requires Consistent Practice

This can be a bit of a blow to the ego because that is not how we were taught to be successful in the Western world!

Deal with it. Yoga requires us to go beyond what the ego thinks it knows and what it thinks we need. Higher awareness is where we want all our choices to come from. That more intuitive space, that’s where a true Yogi is headed.

And, sorry if you’re not up for it, but it’s only through consistent, dedicated practice, that we learn to quiet our lower mind (ego) and our over time, listen to our bodies, the true Self. Only then can we hope to become more attuned to our own inner understanding of who and what we are and what we are capable of.

When awareness, higher consciousness takes centre stage literally everything can be energetically supercharged from that moment.

Four Ways Yoga Activates Your Intuition

Need some help activating your intuition? I’ll give you four ways!

1.     One of the primary methods Yoga uses is the practice of mindfulness. By bringing your attention to the present moment and focusing on your breath, you can quiet the chatter of your mind and become more aware of your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. This heightened sense of awareness allows you to tune in to your inner guidance, enabling you to make decisions that are in alignment with your deepest values and desires.

2.     In addition to mindfulness, yoga also teaches us to cultivate compassion and non-judgment towards ourselves and others. By letting go of your judgments and limiting beliefs, you can open to new perspectives and possibilities, allowing your intuition to guide you towards greater growth and fulfilment.

3.     Another important aspect of yoga that helps to cultivate intuition is the emphasis on listening to our bodies. Through the practice of asanas and pranayama, you learn to become more attuned to the physical sensations in your body, which can serve as important indicators of your overall well-being and help us to make informed decisions about your health and self-care.

4.     Finally, yoga also teaches us to trust in the wisdom of the universe and surrender to the flow of life. By letting go of your need to control outcomes and trusting in the inherent goodness of the universe, you can connect more deeply with your intuition and allow it to guide you towards greater fulfilment and purpose in life.

It’s through the consistent practice of the teachings of Yoga that we can cultivate greater awareness, compassion, and trust in ourselves and the universe, allowing us to tap into our innate intuition and live more fulfilling and purposeful lives.

Starting Your Journey: How to Cultivate Intuition through Yoga

So, how can you get started on the right path with yoga? It’s easier than you might think. First, find a knowledgeable teacher. Don’t be afraid to try ask questions. What are you being taught, why? Is it progressive. Does your teacher have a personal practice – or is this just another fitness class? Trust your intuition!

Then take your time committing to the path. First in preparing your body, then your mind, and then sensitising to your ability to manage energy.

And no sugar-coating yourself. Regular practice is necessary for success. Intuitively you know this. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know.

But that doesn’t have to be overwhelming, and it certainly doesn’t have to be some crazy depleting physical practice. It just means coming back every day to your intention to move towards intuitively remembering that most optimised version of you and bringing that YOU to the foreground as frequently as you can.

The great Yoga masters were scientists who experimented on themselves for thousands of years to be able to pass on these teachings. We are fortunate to have been given the specific methods involving pranayama (breath control), asana (postures), and meditation that actually WORK to move us into these deeper states of awareness – to move us towards Yoga as a state.

If we can skip the fads and the gimmicks and trust the traditional science, follow the actual path – success is no longer unobtainable (at worst) or random (at best). It’s a given.
