Moon, Sun, Fire
Moon · Sun · Fire Practice
The Traditional Hatha Yoga Progression
A systematic path through steadiness, energy, and integration.
In traditional teaching, “Ha” represents Sun and “Tha” represents Moon.
Hatha is the union — or striking together — of these forces to create Fire.
This isn’t decorative symbolism.
It’s a teaching method.
Practice progresses from Moon → Sun → Fire.
Each stage prepares you for the next.
This structured progression supports:
• Self-discovery
• Mental steadiness
• Physical resilience
• Breath awareness
• Intentional living
Not by accelerating you —
but by refining you.
Inside FireWoven, this progression forms the backbone of practice.
Moon · Stage 1
Stability of Mind
In traditional language, Moon represents the mind.
A restless mind cannot sustain depth.
Moon practice builds steadiness through:
• Longer-held postures
• Emphasis on exhalation
• Breath regulation
• Resilience without force
Forward folds and twists ground the body.
Breath calms the nervous system.
Discipline becomes internal rather than imposed.
Moon is not passive.
It is preparation.
These classes support:
• Reduced anxiety
• Stronger breath capacity
• Physical stability
• Mental focus
• Foundational discipline
Moon forms the base of all that follows.
Sun · Stage 2
Cultivation of Energy
Once stability is established, we introduce Sun.
With a steady foundation, energy can rise without overwhelming the system.
Sun practice emphasises:
• Dynamic movement
• Stronger inhales
• Backbends and lateral work
• Building vitality without agitation
This stage develops:
• Increased movement and strength
• Expanded breath capacity
• Greater awareness of energy
• Confidence in flow
Sun should enliven — not deplete.
It prepares you for integration.
Fire · Stage 3
Integration
Fire is the meeting of Sun and Moon.
With steadiness and energy established, practice deepens into integration.
Fire combines:
• Forward folds
• Twists
• Backbends
• Lateral and extension work
• Coordinated breath awareness
The emphasis shifts from physical challenge to directed attention.
Fire develops:
• Internal balance
• Refined awareness
• Energetic integration
• Deeper meditation
It is less about intensity —
and more about coherence.
OTHER PRACTICES INSIDE FIREWOVEN
YIN AND YANG
Balancing Activation and Stillness
Yin invites you back to rhythm and stillness.
Yang prepares and activates.
Together they support the Moon · Sun · Fire progression by balancing effort with integration.
Stillness is not passive.
It is where depth matures.
AYURVEDA
Supporting the System
Traditional yoga was never taught in isolation.
Before posture and fire, practitioners tended to health, rhythm, and vitality.
Ayurveda supports the system that supports the practice.
It is not a prerequisite to complete —
but a lens you return to when practice feels unstable.
BREATH PRACTICE
Refining Awareness
Pranayama is not about forcing the breath.
It is about refining awareness.
Breath practice supports regulation, steadiness, and clarity — whether practised alone or alongside Moon, Sun, and Fire work.
Subtle practices often have the deepest effect.
