As a practice of union, Yoga has got me to slow down and step out of speed cycle that was at times addictive, restless and unhealthy. 🤒
Now I get that the more we take on, the more difficult it is to get off our speed mills. Life just gets fuller and fuller and you just have to keep running to keep up. 🏃🏻♀️ And the more we run, the more we lose our way.
We deplete our inner resources (our bodies) and our external resources (the planet).
Do you see it? Want a way out?
TRUTH. Looking after your SELF is just as important as taking care of business.
Do you though? I’m asking? Are you taking care of you? Or are you on a highway to burnout, foot to the floor, driving as fast and as hard as you can?
Take a break, breathe, and realign with your overall mission – which is to feel good! Is it not? This has got to be our primary aim.
Start now. Join me in convo with Heidi Benham, co-founder of The Form, a very cool yoga and fitness brand which is all about sustainability. And so is Heidi.
Check out the habits, practices and yogi-inspired disciplines that are fuelling Heidi’s soul-driven life…and success.

Yep, we are officially in the rapids that are hurtling us towards Christmas and New Year, question is will you sink or will you swim? Ho Ho Ho… yeah, I know, not the most positive of seasons’ greetings (especially coming from a yogi). But let’s not kid ourselves…this time of year can be a STRESSSS FESSST.
Whether you’ll ride the yule tide rapids and reach calmer water has little to do with if you’ve got the buoyancy aid or a lifesavers’ certificate and everything to do with the answer to this question.
Have you got the mindset?
Let’s go see.
FIVE ‘easy-to-implement’ actions you can do right away.
What happens when you really want or expect something and (for whatever reason) it doesn’t happen? Maybe you had a situation like that recently? Let’s see if you can relate and if you can, prepare to take care of your SELF as if you’re life depends on it.. let’s go.
You asked: What does yoga have to do with hormonal health?
Yogi chickadee, if you are of a certain age it won’t be much of a surprise that between the ages of 35 and 50 us girls experience our worst psychological wellbeing due to hormone issues. Hands up if that’s you. Mine’s up there too.
What’s happening here? Let’s take a quick lesson in biology.
Hormones are chemical messengers that are jettisoned into your body by your endocrine system. And get this… they influence:
- Your emotions
- How you eat
- How you fight off illness
- Your reproductive cycle
- Your sleep cycles
- Your behaviour
- How you react to stress
With a mindful lifestyle and a regular yoga practice you can help prevent hormones from hijacking your health, wellbeing, love life, the whole ‘shebang’.
What to know more? Of course. Come with me.
Let’s hand out some red flags. Get waving them at me if you are:
- Feeling either unpleasantly plump or dangerously preskeletal.
- Ravenous at times, off your food at others.
- Lying awake at night, thoughts racing.
- Tired all the time.
- Racked with aches and pains.
- Accident and injury prone.
- Forgetting easy stuff like names, birthdays, the day of the week.
Almost no one ever tells you should exercise LESS but if you’re waving that red flag at me right now, this yogi is.
Now I know what it means to not listen to advice. I also know what happens when you ignore the wisdom of your body. So, before you dismiss this course of action as outright lunacy, please read my story. It’s all here, alongside some yogi tools to reclaim balance and enhance your hormonal health.
Plus, I’ll share why being less active can sometimes actually help improve athletic performance. It’s all about listening to your body folks. Come with me. It’s time to tune in and tune up.
Q: I’m in training for a spring marathon. How can yoga help me taper?
A: Taper, peak, fade – whatever you call it, it’s that period when you’re supposed to be training less than you have before. You’ve logged the super long miles or sessions and the plan says it’s time to pull back, let the body catch up, recover. Sounds great, you can do that right?
Not so straight-forward. Why? Because it’s way, way too easy to fall into the human trap of thinking more is more. (You know you think that way – you’re a competitor. It goes with the territory.)
So you stop trusting the plan and maybe add on a few hours. Or you pull back and your mind starts flipping you out, the confidence you’ve worked hard to accumulate takes a dive and before you know it, your anxiety is through the roof and you don’t even have your old faithful sport to distract you.
The solution: Drop a few key yoga tools into your taper plan.
