This business has never been about offering random fitness classes that simply entertain or provide a band-aid to the deeper reasons for our stress, overwhelm, overwork and fatigue. 

This studio and our on-line community provide the place where you get the chance to pause and really think about what you need and what you don’t need, to move gracefully out of those cycles, patterns and behaviours that got you here in the first place. It’s a place you get to face your fears, face your obstacles, your attachments and move past them with compassion and strength. 

Yoga Local is where you will get the expert practices, and lineage-based teachings that move you intuitively into higher awareness. To guide you into those more conscious choices that move you efficiently and skilfully from where you are to what you want to be – and possibly to where you could never ever imagine!

New Class Changes

Our first news is we’ve had a re-brand to honour this progression💪 Our new classes are now being referred to as the tradition refers to them. Moon, 🌝 Sun  and Fire 🔥 We think this is way clearer and helps our membership better navigate through Stages 1 to 3 of the Hatha Yoga path. You can check out the website for more on these class descriptions and plot your path to greatness! 

Now, here’s the new and exciting part 

I’m always saying that the Hatha Yoga Path is not for the faint of heartTaught as it was meant to be, it is not the ‘gentle’ or ‘beginner’ optionAdd the Tantric elements and you better buckle up! 

You don’t need to take my word for it either.  

In the Yoga practice manual, The Yoga Sutra, Patanjali begins instruction with a welcome, but it also carries a clue on the status he expects his student to have arrived at. 

Sutra 1.1 Translated

Welcome, well prepared practitioners, now begins the instruction on the practice of Yoga.  

Complete mastery over the roaming tendencies of the mind is Yoga. Then the Seer becomes established in its essential nature. Elsewhere the Seer conforms to the roaming tendencies of the mind.  

The assumption is right there in this first Sutra! You are already well prepared for the Yoga path. In other words, you are not a beginner. You have done the necessary work to get yourself to this point and found your way to a lineage and a teacher so that you can now be guided towards the culmination of your practice.  

I find this wild! The first text we all get handed or recommended in Yoga school was never meant as a beginner text! 

We Need A New Class For Preparation

Patanjali says a teacher is necessary to bring the Yoga Sutra to life but more than that, he says a certain level of achievement in practice is necessary also.  

This opening Sutra also makes it clear that Yoga is the study of something in a practical wayIt requires discipline, systematic application and execution. You can’t get success from reading this stuff. Practice is the key to self-knowledge and ultimate freedom.  

Not a message that goes down well in the West – we don’t have time for that! Where’s the fast-track optionGive me the bullet points! 

I get it. I’ve been that person. But that’s the beauty of change. 

Yoga has a lot of techniques and people do want to learn them and master them, but the intensity and desire for a committed daily practice is (let’s face it), is not there for most folks at the start. 

When our motivation is low, and the spiritual urge to grow hasn’t been nurtured When we’ve not developed any real technique, what we actually need is the opportunity to simply work on evaluating and improving ourselves. 

 We need preparation practices! 

 

Prepare Yourself for Yoga Mastery 

We introduced Restore a year ago – as the first of our Stage 0 preparation practices.  

Our goal was to create the right context for practice – which is a balanced nervous system!  As such, this class works beautifully on gently liberating anything that interferes with your daily vitalityAnd you love it! The waitlists are the proof.  

But it doesn’t go far enough. And we can’t have that. So…. 

 

🌟 New Class | STRENGTH 🌟 

Yes, we are introducing a new class for those who want to empower physically. 

This is a class that will show you how to work with asana postures and breath practices specifically for fitness and strength gains. The purpose is to help create the right context for your disciplined Yoga practice. You need to be physically strong for the path that follows. 

But to be clear, this is not Yoga – this is strong asana prep that equips you for the Hatha Yoga path. 

 

Your Objectives in Strengthen 

  • Help you grasp the foundations and energetics of yoga asana (posture only) and develop the confidence to practice in a group setting with people looking for fitness and strength gains. 

  • Go beyond simply creating shapes with the body to discover a whole range of practical yoga breathing techniques that will sustain your active, healthy life – for all your life.  

  • Explore the stability and alignment you need to power and fuel any physical activity or experience – including but not exclusive to the practice of Yoga. 

  • Learn how to maximise your breath, find stability and flexibility of the spine, build strength to muscles in the back, shoulders, chest, arms and fire up the power-house that is your core. 

  • Develop wrist and ankle strength you need for complex postures and to improve flexibility and balance. 

  • Release constricted energy, fight fatigue and build endurance. 

  • Hone your proprioception skills and build a self-supporting mind/body feedback loop. 

  • Improve poor pelvic positioning, strengthen weak abs. 

  • Train smart, strengthen your resolve and work to set priorities that will help you stay effortlessly on track. Focus your mind and get clear on what’s possible.  

  • Practice continuous movement with awareness to accelerate performance and enjoy a sustainable active life. Use concentration, breath, one pointedness to find your individual flow. 

 

No Meditation? 

This is a 45-minute class and does not include time for meditation. But it will be taught to leave you energetically in a state that will naturally introduce you to the effects of the asana. You won’t know it, but it will still be a well-sequenced Asana class that empowers but doesn’t deplete.
